A-Team movie

Postby Silver_Surfer1 » Tue Jun 8, '10, 4:04 am

Remember the television show "The A-Team"?

The tv show starred actor George Peppard in the role of Hannibal Smith, actor Dirk Benedict in the role of Faceman, actor Mr. T in the role of B.A. Baracus, and actor Dwight Schultz, I think is his name in the role of Murdock.

Well, they have made a big screen version of this show and the movie should be due out in theaters this week or next.

Mr. T who was in the original tv show has some comments about the new movie:

George Peppard :heartbeat:

I guess I won't be taking the kids to see it, based on what Mr. T had to say about it.

I'd like to see it, but I do expect it to be more violent than the TV series. The attitudes of movie and television studios regarding content have changed since the original was made. The new film will reflect that. I'm not sure what the rating will be, but I'll be surprised if it is appropriate for children.

I have been looking forward to the new A-Team movie coming out soon, but if Mr. T has this kind of review for it, then maybe I'll skip it.

I already knew that it is very rare, if ever, that a movie remake can ever match or supercede the original it was derived from and it seems like this only goes to uphold that theory. It's a shame too. It may also reflect at the box office. We'll see how it goes.

I should clarify: I don't mind violence or language (within reason) and I'll probably see this with my husband. I am a little nostalgic for the original now, though. Maybe I'll rent some episodes for the family to watch together.

Another concern I have for the movie is if it can tell decent story with the premise. Even in the series, they devoted several episodes to the aspect of the A-team being framed, escaping, and trying to prove their innocence. That's not even establishing them as soldiers of fortune with a penchant for MacGyvering, too. I have to wonder if a two hour (or less) movie can really cover it.

That's a good point, Thoul. There is a lot of history with the A-Team before they "became for hire", etc. I don't know how they will deal with all that, but they will have to do it quickly to fit everything in to a movie version. Of course, if I remember correctly didn't a short version explanantion of who they were and how they came to be fit into the opening or introductory segment each week in the TV show?
