Post subject: 5 ton Satellite falling
PostPosted: Mon Sep 19, '11, 2:48 am
NASA has said that a 5 ton satellite is falling back to earth sometime this next week, however, they will not know exactly where it is going to fall until it reenters Earth's atmosphere.

This is a bit scary. This thing could fall anywhere in the world!!!

I guess this is one hazard of having all that junk floating around in space, etc.

Will keep an eye on this story for any further updates.

Hopefully most of it will burn up in the atmosphere, but it sounds as though they still expect a lot to reach the surface. I hope it lands in an unpopulated area like the Skylab pieces. If not... someone is going to have a really bad day.

Update: NASA says that the falling satellite will probably come down sometime this Friday afternoon (tomorrow) and they estimate right now that it will miss the USA:

Wow, this takes a load off my mind.

I won't feel completely safe until this thing is fallen and down and over though.

Yeah, Thoul, you were right about some of it being burned up in the atmosphere, but it's so big (the size of a bus) that a good bit of it will fall to earth.

We should know more sometime tomorrow. I hope no one is hurt by this thing. Hopefully, it will fall in the water somewhere or a deserted area.
