Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

Anyone who's played Sonic CD probably knows that it has 2 completely different soundtracks. The original soundtrack is in the Japanese and European release. The North American version was delayed so a new soundtrack could be composed by Spencer Nilsen, who composed music for many Sega CD and early Saturn games. Why the NA version has a different soundtrack is beyond me.

Anywho, which do you think is better? Personally I love them both equally, but some zones like Collision Chaos have songs that fit the atmosphere better in the US version.

North American. It's more varied and fits the zones better. The JP/EU version is fun to listen to, but gets old after a while because every song is "OMG IT'S SONIC AND THE TEMPO HAS TO BE REALLY FAST WHEEEEEEEE!" *composer drinks seventh cup of coffee* Music can be upbeat and exciting without being 168+ bpm.

Maybe I'm biased because I played the US version first but it's still the one I prefer.

I disagree. Listen to Stardust Speedway Present for example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP0_uIlx8hU It's just chill. Not to mention Tidal Tempest, and others. In fact, most of the Past tracks in the JP OST are quite calm. I really need to do another run of this game.

JP's Stardust Speedway and Tidal Tempest are at best generic house music. The US versions have really good funk/hip-hop sounds. I guess because the original games had a hip-hop vibe to their music (Spring Yard Zone, Mystic Cave Zone), I equated Sonic with more of a funky beat.

I'm not familiar with the Japanese OST. All I know is that I love the music to the Icecap Zone and Aquatic Ruins Zone (and the final boss music for Sonic III).

Well, it looks like I'm the only one who prefers the JP ost. I'm kinda surprised. Most people elsewhere who I've asked, prefer the JP ost as well. Mind you, the Past songs are the same in both the US and JP soundtracks, so possibly my favorite song in the game is in both versions.
