Phantasy Star: Fringes of Algo

I'm on to the last bit of implementation for my new patch for PSI, but have been hung up a bit on some strange bug I encountered, where the game dropped Alis's Defense stat on the Lac Shield to 0. I haven't been able to figure it out yet, but I'm not sure that it even has anything to do with my alterations, as I remember this happening to me once before. It happened in combat with Dark Falz, and during one of its' attacks, Alis is all of a sudden taking insane damage in the 200 range. Weird. Hopefully this doesn't slow me up for very long.

Anyone else ever have such a problem with this game?

Ok, I'm done! PSI: The Hordes of Nei is officially ready for release! My friend, Trenzer, (who evidently signed up for an account here!) hasn't made a site for it, so I'm releasing it via email for now. Thoul, I'll email it to you if you want to have it available like the other patches.

The game is tested on all variables except for the monster data and the character level data. As before, I fully welcome any comments on it! Here is a snippet from the readme:

This is a thorough alteration of the original game to make it tie-in with the rest of the classic Phantasy Star series. Nearly every piece of equipment has a different attack or defense value, many cost more, some items have been overhauled, some are only found from battles with boss monsters. Every single piece of equipment has a use! If something costs a great deal of money, it is worth it.

The restorative spells, (Heal and Cure) and items, (Cola and Burger) are now more potent and require more MP/Meseta to compensate. Guns also do more damage. Many of the shops have different items for sale. The following items are no longer in the game: Wand, Needle Gun, Silver Fang, Ceramic Sword, Iron Shield, Laser Shield, and Light Suit. The items that replace these are FAR better. Discovering which pieces of equipment work with each character is part of the fun of this hack, so try all sorts of weapons/shields/armor on different characters!

All four of the player characters have been greatly changed to better represent their roles in the party. Finally, the monsters have all been edited to keep a challenging level of play throughout, including having different combat skills, and nearly all drop more money to buy the new ultimate equipment. The monsters now come at you in large numbers, so be prepared to fight the Hordes to get where you are going. As for Nei… that is for the player to discover!

Ok, by user suggestion I made a V1.2 of the Purgatory patch for PSIV to replace all the useless Techs and Skills with other characters' Techs and Skills. Here is a list:
- Chaz’s Earth Skill has been replaced with Vision. He no longer learns Brose, but instead learns Regen on level 45. He also no longer has the Skill Explode, but instead has Astral.

- Alys no longer has the Death Skill, instead she learns Flare. She no longer learns Shadowbind or Moonshadow, instead she learns Miracle on level 20 and Recover on level 24, which ONLY works in battle.

- Hahn no longer starts with Gelun, he has Gra instead. He no longer has Doran, and instead learns Deban on level 10. He also no longer has Vol, but he learns Sar on level 12. He no longer has Rimit; he learns Gigra on level 18 in its place. Lastly, he no longer has Eliminate; he has Corrosion instead.

- Rune no longer has Seals. He learns Res instead. In place of Diem he has Corrosion, and in place of Negatis he has Recover, which ONLY works in battle.

- Gryz no longer starts with Brose and Crash, instead he starts with Zan and Barrier. Replacing Shadowbind is Recover, which ONLY works in battle.

- Rika no longer starts with Illusion; she starts with Flare instead. She also no longer has Eliminate, and in its’ place she has Medice. Medice can ONLY be used OUTSIDE of battle. Using it in battle will crash the game every time.

- Demi no longer starts with Spark; she has Burst Rocket instead.

- Wren no longer starts with Spark; he has Medic Power instead.

- Raja no longer starts with Arows, Rimit, Seals or Holyword. He starts with Thu, Wat, Giwat, and Flare, respectively. He now learns Githu on level 29, Nawat on level 33, and Nathu on level 37.

- Kyra no longer starts with Rimpa or Telele. She has Wat and Vortex instead. She no longer has Doran; she has Giwat instead. In place of Bindwa she now learns Legeon. In place of Vol she learns Gisar instead.

- Seth no longer starts with Shadowbind, Mindblast, or Deathspell; he begins with Recover, that ONLY works in battle, Medice which can ONLY be used OUTSIDE of battle. Using it in battle will crash the game every time. And finally, he has Vision.

I was never really into PS1, had to much of a old dragon warrior feel to it.. I'm thinkin about goin through it once i've gone through all the generations on III, but how does this patch work out? Will Nei or someone maybe a prototype of Nei appear in it since your hackin stuff? just wonderin.

Unfortunately, Nei isn't in the game. I'd love to be able to hack something like that in though!

For all the players here, and Thoul, a player found a nasty bug that is in all versions of the patch that makes the enemy Servant to 999 damage to the entire party. Not good times. Thoul, I'll email you replacement files for the ones you host here. If anyone else has problems regarding this bug, let me know!
