If Barack Obama wins the Democratic nomination for President, who do you think he would, or should, choose as his Vice-Presidential running mate, and why?
Also, tell us in a post below who do you think he would NOT choose, and why?

Thought I would bump this topic back up as I heard someone say on Fox news tonight that some VP (vice president) choices could come out as early as next week. I can hardly wait to see who these nominees will pick as their running mates.
I still hope Obama picks Hillary Clinton, but I won't be surprised if he doesn't pick her. Although I think a lot of news people will be so surprised if the does they will be speechless! Ha, that would be great to see.
I just hope Obama doesn't choose John Kerry.
If he doesn't choose Hillary Clinton, I think a good choice would be a Kennedy family member, but who knows.

i really hope he doesn't pick clinton. i understand it might bring in more votes, but the only reason i actually care about obama is that he doesn't play the same washington game of mundane "issues" that don't affect 99% of people.

I know that whoever he chooses, I'm probably going to be putting up a giant post with my assessment of who they picked, why they picked them, what they bring to the campaign and that kind of stuff, assuming I know something about who was picked. I'll probably end up the doing the same for McCain. It's the political scientist in me, what can I say?

Schwarznegger is a Republican, isn't he? I think that's a pretty unlikely pick, but I suppose it could happen.
I also hope Obama doesn't pick Clinton. If he does, it would be a sign that he doesn't really ccare about any of the issues. It would show that he just wanted to be elected, no matter what.
I don't really have any idea of who he should pick, though. Hopefully his search finds someone good for the job.

I really think Obama is " in a delicate position ". I've heard it said that if he picks Clinton that it might be bad for him as his platform is " change " and Clinton may be some of the "same old, same old", but really now, couldn't that same description be used to fit almost any of the democratic vp possibilities?????
Clinton could also be viewed as " change ", in my opinion. We have NEVER had a female vice-president, and that is about as change as you can get. Also, Obama knows the difficulities as having been a black man himself running for President, he has an idea of how difficult it has also been for a woman running for an office like this, or trying to be accepted as a possible vp running mate.
Some may say that a vote for Hillary may be a vote for Bill, but it doesn't have to be that way. Hillary can stand on her own merits and her own accomplishments, etc.
I can understand Obama wanting to win this on his own, without the shadow of The Clinton's around him, etc., however, as we all know, no politician acts alone in this business.
I can't wait to see what happens, and I'm sure however it goes, it will be newsworthy.

i view obama's "change" as being entirely different than clinton's. clinton buys into the whole typical, stagnant, and trite game of politics in DC that have been going on for ages. republicans take office, swing the country right until most people can't take it, and then the democrats take office to do the exact same thing. i view obama's "change" as removing himself from that context of a pendulum swinging back and forth, and is looking to undo the shouting-match-polarized politics we're stuck in today.

Luke, I kind of agree with your assessment of Obama's idea of " change ".
However, I am really skeptical at this point and time whether Obama, or any one person for that matter, can really bring about that kind or type of change in Washington, etc.
I do know that it must be possible, and it is something we as a nation and people do need, want, and crave very badly.
It's just that I have a hard time seeing how someone "new" is going to begin this idea of change when we have so many who are used to and set in the "old" ways in our Nation's capitol, etc. Even some of those there in his own party who say they may support Obama's idea of change now, etc. have proven that they have done just the opposite in many issues both in the past and now. I think a lot of politicians may be riding on Obama's coat tails because the people seem to like him and want his "dream" to come true and so many politicans are trying to placate the people because they want their party in office, etc. We've heard talk of "change" before and as we've seen in the past, when that office is taken, things start happening differently than many had hoped for. I am afraid this may happen with Obama as well, but we'll see how it goes.
The only way we are going to get "change" is if someone new has the backbone to do actually do it, though, and if Obama's the guy, then I applaud him. It's not going to be easy though.

News reports say that Obama might make his VP choice known sometime this week since the convention is next week, I think, or very soon anyway. Obama has said he will announce his decision online first.
Anyone else waiting on pins and needles to hear who it's gonna be????????
