When travelling on Dezoris years before Phantasy Star II, adventurers had to beware of the fierce wildlife roaming the untamed planet. One meat-eater was this Dezoris Cat, who camped out on a path leading to Baron Labs. Apparently, the cat was too lazy to hunt for it's own food, as it relied on people travelling to the labs to give it meat.

Smilodon is an extinct genus of large machairodontine saber-toothed cats that lived between approximately 2,5 million to 10,000 years ago in North and South America. The name Smilodon is a bahuvrihi from Ancient Greek: smilē, "knife" and Ionic Greek odon, "tooth". (Wikipedia)

[quote="Thoul"] Apparently, the cat was too lazy to hunt for it's own food, as it relied on people travelling to the labs to give it meat.

atleast it relied on people to give it meat, instead of the people being the meat. that cat looks ferocious. :o

newsblade, those are some interesting facts for the smiledon creature. :)
' A Knight is sworn to valor,
his heart knows only virtue,
his blade defends the helpless,
his might upholds the weak,
his word speaks only truth,
his wrath undoes the wicked '

('The Old Code' - ' Dragonheart ')

Does anyone remember of there were sabertooths anywhere in PSII? I'm wondering if this cat was made up just for PS Adventure, or if it was based on something in the other game.

No, but there were Mastodons* which scientist believe they coexisted with sabertooth cats.

The only animals that Rolf saw were rabbits, orangs (if they are even animals), owls, penguins (PSIV), moles (PSIV) and Musk Cats. Maybe there wasn’t a good dialogue between the responsible for the script and the designer.

script: okay... here you'll draw a dezorian cat (musk cat)
designer thinking: dezorian (ice planet) cat.... hmmm ok
[a few days latter]
designer: ok, how does it look?
script: :\ hmm.... fine, it's... fine.

Another thing is the introduction of Dezoumans, I mean the brown dezorians that seam like a cross between palmans and dezolians. It must also be summer in Dezolis since there's no trace of ice/snow anywhere.

Summer is very unlikely; the only possibility is that Motherbrain started to punish palmans rebels because they were conspiring against her - and since Dezo seams to be their hiding base/planet (like planet Hoth in Starwars) she re-configured Dezo's climatrol.

So, between AW1268 (PSadventure) and AW1274 (the crash between two ships), a period of 6 years, Dezo became an ice planet again. 7 years later there was a gas leak. It could also be between AW1268 and the departure of Parmans (after the gas leak accident). [I hope no one brings me a screenshot of ice from PSadventure now that I said all this... I didn't investigated yet if this theory is possible, I have to think more about it]

* Elephants (PSI and PSII) were probably the seed for Igglanova, I think.

There is ice in some areas during Adventure, but I think it's only remote places, like high on a mountain:

Just outside the city, there's no ice, though:

So ultimately, I'd say that theory works very well.

I like cats, but isn't it time for a new "Image Of The Day" by now. We've had this one for several days now.

I ran out of images and haven't had a chance to prepare some new ones yet. Hopefully we'll start up with that again over the weekend.

Sounds great to me, Thoul. I hope I didn't sound too imposing, or anything like that.

Hey, I've got an idea. I'll message it to you, and you can let me know what you think, k? :)
